EAST
WOODHAY PARISH COUNCIL
HELD ON
TUESDAY 1st OCTOBER 2002
The Parish Council has been informed that, although no funding is available from Basingstoke and Deane to improve the area opposite Masons Court within this financial year, there is a possibility of funding within the year 2003/2004. This will be followed up.
An estimated replacement
value figure has been received for the War Memorials. Based on this, a quotation to add the Memorials to the
current insurance policy has been obtained, but this was much higher than
expected. The Clerk
will investigate whether it may be possible to insure the Memorials on a
separate policy with a higher excess, rather than add to the existing one.
Work has begun to level the
manhole covers with the road surface along the C5 through Woolton Hill. The Area Surveyor has agreed to
‘white mark’ the new dropped kerb crossing point opposite the
Infant School.
A leaflet drop of comment
forms will take place around Harwood Paddock once these forms have been
received. Forms will be sent to
all who attended the public meeting and notices will be put up informing
everyone else of their availability. Consultation will run between 11th October
and 22nd November.
A mobile unit displaying all proposed Local Plan sites will visit
Woolton Hill Church Hall car park on 21st October.
Repairs to the Skateboard
Ramp are ongoing. The new Bus
Shelter outside Masons Court in Woolton Hill is now up, invoices received and
grants applied for. The
shelter has been added to the Council’s existing insurance policy.
A letter has been received
from a parishioner expressing concern about the traffic problems in Woolton
Hill. The letter also states
that some parishioners propose forming a working party to look at the issues of
road safety in the village, and requests that a representative of the Parish
Council join this working party.
The police have been carrying
out speed checks outside the Infant School in Woolton Hill over the past 3
weeks. Many people,
including many locals, were caught exceeding the speed limit. A similar exercise in 2000
resulted in the speed limit along this stretch of road being reduced from 40 to
30 miles per hour.
Results of the recent Parish Appraisal showed that speeding was
identified as a major concern of many people. However, it has been pointed out that any form of
physical traffic calming measure would require the installation of street lighting,
which many feel would affect the rural aspect of the village.
Parents at the Infant School
are parking their cars across the dropped kerb on the school side of the road,
thus preventing pedestrians from using it. The Headmistress has requested they refrain from doing
this.
It has been noted that some
Dog Fouling notices are missing from their posts, and the Clerk will inform
Environmental Health at Basingstoke and Deane of this.
Over forty people have now
volunteered to help with production of Village Design Statements. A meeting will be held on 8th
October for all those interested.
